We are so thrilled to have learned our President-elect Barack Obama's preference for the first dog is a shelter mutt. He even compared himself to a mutt while joking about his own mixed-race heritage.
All our dogs are mutts adopted from our local shelter and the streets. We did not specifically looking for mutts. We decided to adopt Edison, Junie and Willy because they were less likely to be adopted than other dogs at the shelter. Edison had been there for 14 days. Junie and willy had been there for 12 days. They were very close to be euthanized. Who knows how long Chad had been on the streets when we found him skin and bones with two broken spots in his tail. They all turned out to be fantastic dogs, healthy, smart and loving. Our lives are literally filled with joy because of these mutts.
Thank you President Obama. You have shown the world that mutts are just as wonderful as pure breeds and shelter dogs need our help. We hope more shelter dogs get adopted during this holiday season.
